Objective

The students will be able to
- Know the process of developing and managing projects
- write a project plan, implement the project and assess the project implementation
- Know the project cycle management
- use networks and partnerships in professional practice
- know different national and international funding instruments

Teaching methods

- Contact teaching: lectures, workshops and seminars.
- Written assignments during contact teaching and distance learning days.
- The key content of PMI is to plan, implement and evaluate a small scale project in teams. The projects will be conducted in collaboration with a working life partner or a Diak's project.
- The main written assignments are a project plan and a project report.
- Seminar presentations of the project's results in the end of the course.
- The project can be part of the thesis work if it is agreed on in advance with the teachers.

Completion alternatives

- An alternative way of completing the study module is only possible upon specific circumstances/criteria (i.e. sickness etc.). Personal reasons such as travel and work are not considered as acceptable criteria.
- Absence from contact teaching will be compensating with written assignments and exams.

- Students cannot conduct PMI individually because project management are conducted in teams in working life.
- PMI course contains the process of planning, implementing and evaluating a small scale project.
- An alternative way to complete the PMI course needs to be agreed in advance with the responsible teacher and the Study Guidance Councellor latest on 12th January 2022.

Employer connections

- The projects are implemented in collaboration with a working life partner or a Diak's project.

Exam schedules

- General exam days in Helsinki campus.
- Exams are agreed with teachers.

International connections

- There can be an international work life partner if it is agreed with the responsible teacher.

Student workload

Total credits are 9 credits, 1 ECTS equals with 26,6 hours of students' work.

Step 1: planning of the project and assignments (3 cr = 80 hrs)
Step 2: implementation of the project and assignments (4 cr = 106 hrs)
Step 3: evaluation of the project and assignments (2 cr = 53 hrs)

Total: 239 hours of a student's work load.

Content scheduling

- The PMI teaching will be offered according to the schedule in Mydiak in Tuudo.
- Onlinesessions in Zoom are offered to support students' project planning and implementation during distance learning days.
- Written assignments will be completed mainly during distance learning days.
- Students will work in teams in planning, implementing and evaluating the projects during distance learning days.

Assessment methods and criteria

- The assessment of PMI is 1-5 or to be resubmitted.
- If assignments are submitted after the deadline, the grade will be lowered one grade. More information from Diak's Degree Regulation:
