The students will be able to
- have an advanced knowledge of academic English especially as used in the thesis work
- know the formal structure of the thesis, including the production thesis
- produce linguistically appropriate academic English text especially in the form of a thesis
- Analyse the linguistic aspects of presented idea papers and thesis proposals

Lecture handouts and assignments. Online material suggested by the lecturer.

Opetusmenetelmät

Lectures, group discussions, written assignments.
The aim is an in-depth understanding of features of academic writing in English, especially from the viewpoint of thesis writing. The focus is on communicative and informational features of texts, rather than on grammatical details.
Hands-on exercises, i.e. actual writing, is a key element.

Attending the lectures. Independent study 10-20 hours. Written assignments, circa 10-20 hours.

Arviointikriteerit, hyväksytty/hylätty

PASS: The assignment is completed in accordance with the instructions given. Ateending the lectures regularly.
FAIL: Otherwise.
