Objective

Students
• understand evidence-based and customer-oriented promotion of health and wellbeing at individual, community and societal level
• can describe the promotive and preventive approaches to health promotion and the levels of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention
• know the legislation, programmes and recommendations governing health and wellbeing
• know the key indicators describing the wellbeing and health of people in Finland
• know the most common diseases affecting the Finnish population and understand the importance and prevention of these diseases at individual, community and societal level
• understand health inequalities and related factors
• understand the impact of the environment and climate change on health and wellbeing
• know how to use motivational interviewing as an intervention in nursing
• know how to search for evidence-based information

Accomplishment methods

A person who has completed a practical nurse qualification can complete the health sector part of the study module (4 credits) through a test, while the Finnish language component (1 credit) must be completed separately. A student with a practical nurse qualification registers for the course through the study office or a study counselor.
