Tavoitteet

Course objectives
After completing this course, the student is able to
- identify the applicability of Participatory Action Research (PAR) for research and community development
- assess ethical aspects related to PAR
- apply some participatory methods and tools
- evaluate the impact and relevance of PAR

Sisältö

The course is taking place in online platform and can be complemented at participants’ own space but within given deadlines. The content is divided into six sessions.
- Introduction
- PAR as part of Qualitative Research Designs
- Ethical considerations in community research and PAR
- PAR Tools and Techniques
- Impact and relevance of PAR
- PAR in practice

The course is organised jointly by Diaconia University of Applied Sciences (Finland) as well as University of Dodoma and University of Iringa (Tanzania) as part of their joint Team Finland Knowledge project, funded by the Finnish National Agency for Education

Additional information for students
We offer a unique opportunity to participate in an international online course called Participatory Action Research and learn from various experts from Finland and Tanzania. The course is offered jointly by Diaconia University of Applied Sciences (Finland) as well as University of Dodoma and University of Iringa (Tanzania).

The programme consists of individual and collaborative online assignments with an intensive part of three days in Helsinki during the week 5th-9th May.2025 (actual dates to be confirmed). Only limited physical access is available for the intensive week and those who will not be able to attend it physically will be offered hybrid sessions and some independent assignments to complete the course.
