Tavoitteet
Opiskelija osaa - digitaalisen kuvankäsittelyn perusteorian - kuvankäsittelyn perustoiminnot, edistyneemmät toiminnot sekä muokata kuvia verkko- tai painojulkaisua varten
Sisällön jaksotus
Basics of Digital Image and Visual Design: Learn visual communication theory including color psychology, typography and composition.
Practical Image Editing Exercises: Gain hands-on experience using either Adobe Photoshop or GIMP.
Applied Theory and Practice: Complete a final project applying the knowledge gained during the course.

Opetusmenetelmät
This is a self paced online course that combines independent study with practical hands-on tasks. You will learn by completing assignments, reading course materials and applying concepts in practice. Optional weekly online support sessions are available to provide guidance, answer questions, and support your progress.
All materials and assignments are provided in the online learning environment (canvas). Each task includes a recommended initial deadline to help you stay on track. Late submissions are permitted; however, a small deduction of 0.2% per day will be applied to encourage consistent progress.

The course workspace will remain open until the end of the course deadline (see Timing), and all assignments must be completed before the workspace closes.
Toteutuksen valinnaiset suoritustavat
According to the degree regulations (2024), Students are entitled to apply for recognition of prior learning regardless of where, when and how the competence has been acquired. At Laurea, there are two different procedures for the recognition and accreditation of prior learning: a) accreditation of prior learning (competence acquired in higher education studies at another institution) and b) demonstration of competence (competence acquired in other ways). The recognition and accreditation of prior learning is initiated by the student themselves. The student is responsible for demonstrating and verifying their competence. The student is entitled to guidance for the recognition and accreditation of their competence. Further information in the student intranet.
You may also assess work-based learning as a way to acquire the competence needed. Read more in the student intranet.
Opiskelijan ajankäyttö ja kuormitus
Workload of the study is measured in a way that to acquire the goal competence of the study, one credit corresponds to an average of 26.7 hours of work done by the student. The actual time needed varies e.g. according to prior competence.
Arviointimenetelmät ja arvioinnin perusteet
The assessment is based on the total points earned from assignments, exercises, and the final project, with a maximum of 100 points. The grading reflects both your understanding of visual communication principles and your ability to apply practical image editing skills. Points are accumulated as follows:
Introduction to Digital Image & Visual Design Theory assignments (3 quizzes : 15 Points and 1 practical task (10 Points) : 25 points.
Photoshop/GIMP exercises contribute (3–5 points per task): 50 points
An image editing tip or hint : 5 points.
Final project: 20 points.
