The student is able to:
- describe the operators related to societal preparedness and their core tasks
- describe the national and international cooperation of operators related to societal preparedness
- describe legislation relating to preparedness and apply it
- assess the sufficiency of documents and safety arrangements related to self-preparedness

Sisällön jaksotus

How do different parties prepare for emergency situations and conditions, and who is responsible for preparedness? In this course, you will gain an overview of society's preparedness - its key actors, responsibilities and cooperation models at both the national and international levels. You will also learn to interpret and apply the legislation governing preparedness in practice. The course focuses on self-preparedness as defined by the Rescue Act.

During the course, you will familiarize yourself with safety-related documents, such as the emergency plan and other safety arrangements for accident risk management, and you will learn to assess their adequacy. The course introduces you to structural and technical safety arrangements, more in depth knowledge on those can be attained in the study unit "Premises Safety and Security"
The course consists of the following modules:

Module 1: Parties involved in societal preparedness and their main duties
Module 2: Cooperation between parties involved in societal preparedness at the national and international levels
Module 3: Legislation related to preparedness
Module 4: Assessment of the adequacy of documents and safety arrangements related to self-preparedness

Toteutuksen valinnaiset suoritustavat

According to the Degree Regulations, a student has the right to apply for recognition of competence regardless of where, how and when the competence was acquired. If you have previously completed similar studies at another higher education institution, please contact your head of student affairs.

Other demonstration of previously acquired competence:
Recognition of previously acquired competence occurs at the student's initiative. The assessment is made using the same assessment criteria and, as a rule, the same grading scale as for the corresponding course or module. The student has the right to apply for recognition of previously acquired competence regardless of where, how and when the competence was acquired.

The student is responsible for demonstrating and verifying his or her competence and providing sufficient information. Recognition and recognition of previously acquired competence occurs before the start of the course. The student completes the competence analysis and registers for the examination in Canvas according to the instructions and schedules given.

If your competence partially corresponds to the competence objectives of the course, discuss the matter directly with the teacher responsible for the course. Contact your teacher well in advance of the start of the course. The teacher responsible for the course will assess your skills and guide you further in this matter.

You may also assess work-based learning as a way to acquire the competence needed. Read more in the student intranet.

Opiskelijan ajankäyttö ja kuormitus

Workload of the study is measured in a way that to acquire the goal competence of the study, one credit corresponds to an average of 26.7 hours of work done by the student. The actual time needed varies e.g. according to prior competence.

Arviointimenetelmät ja arvioinnin perusteet

The assessment of competence is based on the objective descriptions and the level of competence is assessed based on the assessment criteria announced in the study implementation plan (Degree Regulations 2024).

The assessment of the course is fully automatic. There is an exam in each module, the grades of which are used to form the overall grade for the course. The passing marks and the criteria for determining the grades are described in the Canvas workspace. Three attempts have been given for each exam. These attempts include the retakes in accordance with Laurea's degree regulations. If the student does not pass the exam the third time, he or she must register for the implementation again.

The assessment of the study uses criteria according to the level I of the competence assessment framework.

To achieve grade 5 student must be able to

To achieve grade 3 student must be able to
- use professional concepts in a consistent manner when explaining various work practices and situations

Professional practice and workplace development

To achieve grade 5 student must be able to
- work independently, using the skills and methods learned
- take responsibility for interaction with customers and/or co-operation partners and for responding to their needs
- anticipate their need for guidance

To achieve grade 3 student must be able to
- work using the skills and methods learned
- engage in professional interaction with customers and/or co-operation partners and identify their needs
- take part in guidance and utilise it

To achieve grade 1 (or pass) student must be able to
- work under guidance using the skills and methods learned
- interact with customers and/or co-operation partners
- receive guidance

Teamwork, skills, leadership, and responsibility

To achieve grade 5 student must be able to
- promote the team’s work and team spirit
- manage their time appropriately, completing the agreed tasks at the required quality level
- work responsibly, applying the skills and methods learned
- plan and evaluate their work, taking safety and/or ethical aspects into consideration

To achieve grade 3 student must be able to
- engage in goal-oriented work in a team
- plan and manage the progress of their work and use of time
- detect safety-related risks
- justify their actions in accordance with the professional code of conduct

To achieve grade 1 (or pass) student must be able to
- work as a member of a team
- plan the progress of their work and use of time under guidance
- work safely and in accordance with the professional code of conduct
- follow the provided instructions and rules

“Students who have failed to demonstrate their competence in accordance with the approved level must supplement or retake their study attainment in a manner and schedule defined by the teacher of the study unit. If the student does not pass the assessment despite the opportunity to complete their study attainment, they must complete the study unit in question in full as specified by the teacher.” (Degree regulations 2024.)

All staff and students of Laurea are expected to adhere to good scientific practices, which includes appropriate referencing. Familiarise yourself with the practices and, if needed, ask for more information. All study assignments are to be done as individual work unless otherwise instructed. If Tournitin is used when assignments are checked, the lecturer will inform the students of this.
