Objective

Students will be able to
- master the Finnish language at basic level A2.2
- understand clear, general spoken language and grasp the main points of discussion in familiar topics, for example, from TV programmes
- converse about familiar topics and manage common everyday exchanges
- easily understand simple texts
- write short pieces of text and communicate by e.g. email
- master the main aspects of basic grammar

Content

- past tenses and their uses
- plural forms
- wordtypes
- the object and its uses
- communication situations (dealing with officials, shopping)
- vocabulary related to hobbies and recreation, health and illnesses, travel, clothing, education, work, customs and celebrations

Teaching methods

- the course is completely online
- lectures on Zoom from April 18 to May 28, approximately two lectures per week
- lots of independent study and homework

Prerequisites: Before the course, Finnish competence should be on a level A1.3/A2.1.

Student workload

Course proceeds quickly and requires a lot of independent study:
- the extent of the course is 5 credits, i.e. 135 hours of work
- there are approx. 27 hours of lectures in total (so the remaining 108 hours are assignments and other independent study)

Active participation to lectures and independent tasks affect to assessment.
