Objective
Work placement objectives
Students
• can take into account the individual needs of older people and consider their life situation in care and guidance work
• can support the wellbeing, functional capacity and quality of life of older people
• can apply the principles of evidence-based nursing and medical care of older people in different care settings
• can use and apply methods to assess customers’ need for medical care to identify changes in their wellbeing (cABCDE, NEWS, GCS, VAS)
• can use indicators (RAI) and methods to assess functional capacity
• understand the specificities of pharmacotherapy of older people and can implement it under supervision
• support the health and wellbeing of the family members of older people, taking into account issues related to family caregiving
• recognise the signs of disadvantage and exclusion in older people and the spiritual and emotional support needs of older people and their family members
• can offer guidance to customers/patients to the appropriate social, health and 3rd sector services
• understand the significance of a multiprofessional team and know how to work in multiprofessional networks
• can use the technological tools and applications in an ethical and customer-oriented manner
• develop their oral and written Finnish language skills needed in nursing
• can assess the stage of their professional growth and present development challenges in the care of older people

Students
• reflect on the importance of the work placement in relation to their own professional growth

• consider ways to support the meaningful everyday life and functional capacity of older people in different environments
Qualifications
In health sector education, participation in first-semester practical training and subsequent internships requires that the student has successfully completed Safe pharmacotherapy and medical calculation (PHA1) study module. Additionally, before each subsequent internship, the student must successfully complete the relevant medication administration and calculation modules related to that specific internship.
