Objective

Students
• recognise their own attitudes and values when confronted with intoxicated customers/patients and their family members
• can analyse ethically challenging situations
• recognise the needs of intoxicated patients and find ways to respond to them
• can integrate information on substance abuse and/or substance use disorders with other illnesses
• can attend to preventive, rehabilitative and problem-reducing substance abuse work at the level of the individual, community and society
• can apply and develop appropriate nursing and rehabilitation methods for the customer /patient and support the families of substance abusers
• recognise factors related to occupational safety and know how to develop good practices

Qualifications

Suitable for nurses, public health nurses, and midwives to deepen and update their skills, or for health sector university of applied sciences students who have already completed the relevant professional basic studies in their degree. The requirement for transitioning to advanced studies is approximately 120 credits or another specific reason agreed upon with a study counselor. Open university students should have equivalent knowledge (a corresponding course from another university of applied sciences or sufficient work experience as a nurse).
