Objective

Work placement objectives
Students
• can adhere to patient and client safety practices
• know how to observe infection risks in the work placement environment and work in an aseptic way
• can plan, implement, evaluate and document under supervision evidence-based holistic nursing care for patients/customers
• can describe the different stages of care processes and care pathways typical of the working environment
• understand the principles of medical care for patients/clients typical of the work environment
• can plan, implement and evaluate under supervision safe and aseptic pharmacotherapy using different routes of administration and can monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the therapy
• can identify risk points typical of the working environment in the pharmacotherapy process
• can offer guidance to patients and their families on the treatment of diseases, rehabilitation and self-monitoring
• recognise factors that promote and support health and can discuss them with customers/patients using motivational interviewing
• can take into consideration the importance of the individual needs of patients/customers in their care and guidance
• can guide customers/patients and their family members to use health, social care and third sector services
• can use the technological tools and applications used in their work placement environment in an ethical and customer-oriented manner
• develop their oral and written Finnish language skills needed in nursing
• can assess the stage of their professional growth

Students
• reflect on the importance of the work placement in relation to their own professional growth
• reflect on the role of evidence-based nursing in supporting their own learning
• reflect on the importance of health promotion and the support for their work capacity in their work placement environment

Qualifications

In health sector education, participation in first-semester practical training and subsequent internships requires that the student has successfully completed Safe pharmacotherapy and medical calculation (PHA1) study module. Additionally, before each subsequent internship, the student must successfully complete the relevant medication administration and calculation modules related to that specific internship.

The application should be addressed to the teachers responsible for RPL if the applicant has a previous practical nurse qualification and/or equivalent higher education studies.
