Objective

The aim is that the student familiarizes him- or herself with the French language and reaches a level where he or she can manage basic everyday life and service situations. The student also learns about the French culture.
After completing the basic course:
- the student is able to pronounce the language
- the student is able to use the alphabet
- the student is able to greet
- the student is able to name the days of the week, seasons and months
- the students are able to introduce themselves and ask common questions
- the student is able to tell about a family
- the student is able to use numbers
- the student is able to tell time and ask about it
- the student is able to use the most common verbs
- the student is able to describe using adjectives
- the student is able to tell about the weather
- the student is able to tell about hobbies

The target level of the course according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is A1.2.

Languages: French, English (and Finnish)

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student is able to introduce him- or herself and tell about a family and hobbies briefly in French using aids (for example a dictionary). The student is able to interpret fairly easy French texts using learning aids. The student is able to answer basic questions with short answers, but not giving reasons.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student in able to introduce him- or herself and tell about a family and hobbies partly fluently in French. The student is able to interpret fairly easy French texts and can retell the main contents, sometimes needing learning aids (for example a dictionary). The student can answer basics questions, but needs some support from a dictionary or partner when explaining reasons.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student in able to introduce him- or herself and tell about a family and hobbies fluently and versatilely in French. The student is able to interpret fairly easy French texts and can retell the main contents without any help. The student can answer basics questions, and explain reasons without needing help from a dictionary or partner.
