Objective
A successful student - understands the significance of comparative religion for practical applications in different fields (e.g., care work, development co-operation) - is able to analyse critically different types of professional discourses - knows how to apply the course content in working life - is capable of approaching current phenomena related to the topic from an analytical perspective
Content
The study unit familiarizes the student with applied research in comparative religion.

Readings for the book exam are selected from the following: A. Ager & J. Haynes, Religion and Development: Conflict or Cooperation? (225 pages); M. Lock, Twice Dead: Organ Transplants and the Reinvention of Death (377 pages); A. Pakaslahti & M. Huttunen, Kulttuurit ja lääketiede (424 pages); H. Widdows, Global Ethics: An Introduction (272 pages); A. M. Viljanen, Psykiatria ja kulttuuri: tutkimus oikeuspsykiatrisesta argumentaatiosta (195 pages). Always contact the teacher for the approval of the selected readings before scheduling the exam.

Time: 4th or 5th study year. Book exam and essay assignment are available throughout the calendar year. Contact the teacher about the exam literature and essay instructions before the summer break (15th June–15th August). Offering data: Students majoring in comparative religion. Students in degree structure A will include three optional “specific topics” study units in their degree. Students in degree structure B will include one optional “specific topics” study unit in their degree. Students accepted to Diak-UEF-Cross-Institutional Studies (20 places).
