Objective

At the end of the course the student is expected to
• Apply scientific knowledge of family nursing in the nursing care, health promotion and family support of children and adolescents with chronic conditions
• Identify common national and international challenges and societal changes in health promotion and chronic disease management with children and adolescents
• Assess the effectiveness of solution-focused and multidisciplinary family support and nursing
• Support and advice families in using services provided by NGOs, church organisations and low-threshold programmes

• Key factors of social exclusion and deprivation
• Multidisciplinary networks, child protection, family support and nursing, experts by experience
• Internal and external family structures and dynamics
• Evidence-based health promotion
• Resources for supporting the growth, development and health of children and adolescents
• Service systems and NGOs

Qualifications

Suitable for nurses, public health nurses and midwives to specialize and update their competence, or for a student in a Bachelor’s Degree Program in Health Care who has already completed the relevant basic professional studies (The care of children, youth, and families -studies) in their own degree program. A prerequisite for proceeding to the advanced studies is approx. 120 completed credits or other specific reason which has been discussed and agreed with the study guidance counsellor. For Open UAS students’ mastery of the equivalent knowledge (comparable study module of another UAS or adequate work experience as a nurse).

All materials and lessons are in English, but students can do the written task also in Finnish.

RPL 5/2021: An RPL can only be granted if the student already has a degree in nursing, or with equivalent studies completed in a UAS degree program in nursing.
