Content scheduling

On-line orientation lecture in the beginning of the study module.
The study module contains three assignments:
1. Written orientation assignment (1 ECT= 26,6 hours) - before participating to the voluntary work
2. Participating to voluntary work and writing a report on it (3 ECTS = 60 hours voluntary work and 19,8 hours for report writing) - during the and in the end of the study module
3. Coordinating and guiding voluntary work (an assignment) - during the study module

Location and time

This on-line study module will take place in Finland, and upon an agreement a Diak student can participate to it from abroad.
Spring semester January-May 2019. The study module can be shorter based on a student's plan.

Materials

The course material will be informed in the beginning of the study module in Moodlerooms.

Teaching methods

There is an orientation lecture (on-line) in the beginning of the study module.
There are on-line study materials in Moodlerooms.
Voluntary work or coordinating voluntary work will take place in a working life organisation.
Students will write written assignments independentely during the study module.

Employer connections

Part of the study module will be implemented in a working life organisation (public sector, NGOs, churches, faith-based organisations, start-ups, enterprises).

Exam schedules

There are no exams.

International connections

The study module can be taken during an international exchange abroad if it is agreed in advance with Diak staff and the international organisation.

Completion alternatives

The study module is an elective. Thus, it will be implemented based a student's plan that is accepted by the responsible teacher of the study module.
Voluntary work elective study module can be 5 ECTS or 10 ECTS upon an agreement with the study career councellor and the responsible teacher.

Student workload

Contents of the on-line study module:
1. Written orientation assignment (1 ECT= 26,6 hours)
2. Participating to voluntary work and writing a report on it (3 ECTS = 60 hours voluntary work and 19,8 hours for report writing)
3. Coordinating and guiding voluntary work (an assignment) (1 ECT= 26,6 hours)
Altogether 5 ECTS equals with 133 hours of student's work.
If a student will make 10 ECTS, the contents and voluntary work will be doubled (266 hours).

Aims of the study module (Voluntary work):
The student
- recognises the possibilities voluntary work give to support professional work
- recognises different types of organisations and environments for volunteering
- is able to act in voluntary work according to values and principles of professional ethics
- is able to identify and evaluate the role of voluntary work in context of civil society, health promotion and welfare services.
-is able to coordinate voluntary work
- recognises developmental needs of voluntary work
