Objective

The students will be able to:
• recognise different concepts, definitions and theories in community work
• recognise the social capacity and assets of the members of communities
• understand the meaning of place in social service and community work
• apply different participatory community work methods in neighbourhood work

Teaching methods

The students will be able to:
- recognise different concepts, definitions and theories in community development
- recognise different capabilities and resources of the members of communities
- Understand the relationship between space and power
- apply different community work methods in the work in neighborhoods
Contents:
- Concepts, definitions and theories in community development
- Capabilities and resources of members of communities
- The impact of space/place on identity and wellbeing
- Community work methods used in the neighborhoods

Materials

Literature and lectures will be available in Moodlerooms.

Completion alternatives

Alternative way of completing the study module is only possible upon specific circumstances/criteria (i.e. sickness etc.). Personal reasons such as travel and work are not considered as acceptable criteria.
Alternative way of completing the study module must be agreed with the responsible lecturer and/or study guidance counselor by the beginning of the study module.
In this study module the alternative way of completing the study module consists of an exam to be taken on any exam re-take. The literature for the exam will be decided with the teachers.

Students are encouraged to carry out field work in collaboration with the working life.

Content scheduling

* Independent studies take place before the first contact lecture.
* Contact teaching week.
* Independent field work in small groups.
* 2 support sessions during the field work period.
* Seminar days for presenting students' group work.

Assessment methods and criteria

* Individual assignments to be resubmitted/pass.
* Field work and written assignment: to be resubmitted-5
* Diak's assessment criteria is followed (Level I, UAS Bachelor’s degrees, initial stage (NQF6))
