Objective

The students will be able to:
• recognise research, development and innovation processes in a working life context
• recognise different research methods and data analysis methods
• understand the thesis process
• understand aims, theoretical concepts, methods and ethics in the thesis process
• write a thesis idea paper

- There are no alternative options.
- All required assignments need to be completed to complete the study module.

Employer connections

- Thesis will be conducted with a work life partner or Diak's project.
- Thesis can be combined with practical placement when agreed with the responsible teacher and study guidance councellor.

Exam schedules

- Dates and deadlines for tests and exams will be informed in the beginning of study module.

International connections

- Thesis can be conducted in collaboration with a international work life partner. This needs to be agreed with the responsible teacher.

Student workload

- The study module includes 3 ECTS. This means 81 hours work for a student (3 x 27 hours).

The study module contains the following assignments:
- Literature assignment
- Research method tests
- Writing and presenting a thesis idea paper

Content scheduling

The study module contains:
- Orientation lecture for thesis process in Diak (obligatory).
- Literature search (obligatory)
- Workshop for writing a thesis idea paper. (obligatory)
- Lectures and workshops research methods and research ethics. (obligatory)

- A student can apply for a partial RPL based on earlier research methods studies.
- To complete RES1, thesis idea paper need to be submitted and presented.

- RES1 study module needs to be completed before starting to write a thesis proposal and participating to RES2 study module.

Assessment methods and criteria

The study module is assessed: pass/ to be resubmitted
To pass RES01 (3 ECTS), the student need to participate to obligatory lectures and complete all required assignments.
