Objective

After completing this course, the student is able to

- understand and apply the framework of planetary health into real-world scenarios
- collaborate in an interdisciplinary, inter-university team, which will facilitate a mutual learning exchange within the team members’ own contexts.
- develop solutions to selected issues/problems and analyze the feasibility of these solutions.
- reflect on the ways planetary health framework can be applied to their own disciplines as well as reflect on their own professional development.

Content

The course is designed for students interested in exploring the intersections between health care, social services and sustainability. The course will enable the students to examine and show the connections between human health and the political, economic, and social systems, as well as the natural systems of our planet through the transdisciplinary framework of planetary health.

Teaching methods

Planetary health course consists of an online phase (kick-off session and group assignment) and an intensive week in Helsinki on 14.-18.10.2024. During the intensive week, students are expected to participate in the daily programme from 9-16 and it is not possible to take part in other courses at that time.

International connections

Planetary Health course is jointly implemented by Diaconia University of Applied Sciences (Finland), Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (Germany), Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (Austria), University College Cork (Ireland) and VID Specialist University (Norway). The course will be attended students from all the partner universities.
