Objective

Students
• know the principles of aseptic work and infection control
• are able to provide basic nursing care and support the patient in daily activities in a resource-based way
• are able to observe and assess the patient’s condition and vital functions
• can safely administer medicines orally and via subcutaneous injection
• can interact professionally in different nursing situations
• know the principles of ergonomics
• understand the importance of evidence-based information and can justify their actions
• understand the principle of sustainable development in nursing
• develop their oral and written Finnish language skills needed in care settings

Accomplishment methods

A person who has completed a practical nurse qualification can complete the study module using an alternative method. The completion is done through a test, and registration for the test must follow the instructions provided by the study counselor.

Content

• assistance with daily activities in a resource-based and aseptic manner
• risk assessment and prevention of pressure ulcers
• observing and monitoring breathing and circulation according to the cABCDE protocol
• administering medicines via different routes; oral and subcutaneous injection
• measuring blood glucose and interpreting the results
• care after death, taking into account cultural and religious beliefs
• ergonomic working practices and kinaesthetics in nursing
• patient safety
• use, recycling and disposal of materials
• evidence-based nursing
• professional interaction and respectful treatment of customers

Qualifications

Basics of clinical nursing (CLI01) participation in teaching/the study module has been completed.
