Objective

The students will be able to:
• know the stages of developmental and life crises and traumatic stress reactions
• understand the different methods, interventions and approaches in crisis work to support individuals and communities
• recognise actors, practices and services in crisis work
• understand and recognise the importance of self-care methods in dealing with secondary traumatic stress in client work

Content

• Stages of developmental and life crises and traumatic stress reactions
• Interventions, methods and approaches in crisis work
• Actors, practices and services in crisis work
• Secondary traumatic stress and self-care in client work

Teaching methods

The students will be able to:
• know the stages of developmental and life crises and traumatic stress
reactions
• understand the diff erent methods, interventions and approaches in crisis
work to support individuals and communities
• recognise actors, practices and services in crisis work
• understand and recognise the importance of self-care methods in dealing
with secondary traumatic stress in client work

This course is divided into three parts, and it will be completed in the following order:
1. Crisis and crisis interventions (2 cr)
2. Crisis work: services, practices and legislation (2cr)
3. Reflections on professional development and crisis work (1 cr)

In addition to the scheduled lectures, there will also be distance learning sessions. These distance learning sessions will be in zoom and will help students with learning assignments.
Learning assignments includes an infographic, a crisis intervention plan and a seminar presentation.

Completion alternatives

Alternative way of completing the study module is only possible upon specific circumstances/criteria (i.e. sickness etc.). Personal reasons such as travel and work are not considered as acceptable criteria.

Alternative way of completing the study module must be agreed with the responsible lecturer and/or study guidance counselor two weeks before the beginning of the study module.

In this study module the alternative way of completing the study module consists of submitting a crisis intervention plan that should be submitted by the end of Spring 2023. The details of the crisis intervention plan will be given by the responsible lecturer.

Student workload

Orientation, face-to-face lectures, online lectures (1 cr)
Independent learning, learning assignments, seminar (4 cr)
Student´s workload is approximately 26h 40min per credit that is divided between different learning tasks during the study module.
