Students
• understand ageing and related changes from a multidisciplinary perspective
• understand the principles of medical and evidence-based care for the most common diseases of older people
• can use and apply methods to assess the need for medical care of older customers
• understand the individual life situations and life course of older people (loneliness, abuse, life history) and can provide guidance on the use of available services
• are familiar with the Act on Services for Older Persons, the Quality Recommendations for Older Persons and the values of social work with older people
• understand the principles of RAI assessment and know the criteria for assessing the functional capacity of older people
• know the principles of chronic wound care for older people
• are aware of professional interaction and guidance of patients and their family members
• understand the importance of supporting the wellbeing of people with a memory disorder and their family member in their everyday lives
• understand the specificities of mental health and substance abuse among older people
• understand the use of health technology applications in the care of older people and to promote their ability to cope at home

Completion alternatives
Possibility to utilize previously acquired knowledge, max 2 ECTS credits (theoretical studies).
The theoretical part, 2 ECTS credits, can be accredited based on a corresponding course previously completed in nursing studies. Similarly, sufficient competence gained through work experience as a practical nurse can be demonstrated by an exam.
