Work placement objectives
Students
• can adhere to patient and client safety practices
• can act according to the working environment’s data security and protection practices
• can observe infection risks in the work placement environment and work in an aseptic way
• can act according to the principles of nursing
• can establish a care and client relationship and assess their ability to deal with patients and customers in a holistic way
• can take into account the diversity and multiculturalism of individuals and life histories in customer/carer relationships
• can observe and respond to the basic daily needs of individuals and document under supervision the care provided
• can administer medication under supervision using the enteral route of administration
• understand their responsibility in the implementation of pharmacotherapy and are familiar with the pharmacotherapy plan of their work placement

Objectives of work placement reflection
Students
• reflect on the importance of the first work placement in relation to their own professional growth
• reflect on the realisation of the principles of nursing and respectful treatment of patients in the first work placement, taking into account ethical issues
• understand the process of setting their own work placement objectives to support their learning
Teaching methods
The aim of practical training is to familiarise the student with practical things that are essential in working life and the application of the knowledge and skills learned during the semester.
The Workseed system is used as a tool for training guidance.
Attendance obligation 100%: general information, coaching for starting training, reflection.

Completion alternatives
There is no optional method of completion, but practical training can also be completed outside the semester in accordance with the personal study plan and following Diak's practical training instructions.
The internship can also be completed during the semester or outside the semester in employment relationship. See separate instructions on Diak's website.
Training can be acreditated according to Diak's RPL instructions.
Employer connections
Internships include various care units (private and public), nursing homes, diverse service centres, health centre wards and services for the disabled.
The student is responsible for finding an internship place. Internships are mainly acquired through Jobili. Information about Jobile will be provided in the general information session of the internship.

Student workload
Practical training 5 ECTS, total number of hours 135h. Training is carried out over a period of 4 weeks. The number of hours to be completed in the internship is 127 hours.
Content scheduling
General practical training information is held at the beginning of the studies. Training for the start of the internship is held before the start of the training.
The reflection is held after the internship has ended.
Info and reflection are mandatory.
Further information
The requirements for practical training as Open University of Applied Sciences studies are laid down separately in the Open University of Applied Sciences guidelines. Admission to the internship requires Open University of Applied Sciences students to participate in an interview with the lecturer responsible for the internship and the guidance counsellor.
Assessment methods and criteria
This implementation will apply initial evaluation criteria.
The assessment of practical training takes into account the learning outcomes of the study phase and the competence requirements of the education. In addition, the assessment of internships takes into account the student's own goals for the internship.
