Objective

Students
• understand the value basis and principles of palliative and end-of-life care
• can carry out symptomatic holistic treatment of terminally ill and dying patients in a customer-oriented and evidence-based manner
• can identify, meet and support the emotional, existential and spiritual needs of patients and their family members
• understand the importance of multiprofessional work in supporting patients’ and their family members’ quality and management of life
• are able to use 3rd sector services in customer-oriented palliative care and in the consideration of customers’ spiritual needs
• reflect on their own worldviews and relationship to spirituality and how these influence their holistic interaction with customers

• palliative and hospice care
• view of humanity, emotional and spiritual needs and supporting spirituality
• customer-orientation, holistic nursing and treatment of symptoms
• end-of-life care plan, treatment guideline and treatment restriction, advance care directive
• signs of impending death
• multisectoral collaboration, service coordination and the 3rd sector
• assistance methods within nursing and pastoral care in end-of-life care
• supporting the coping of family and friends, grief and hope
• personal capacity to offer holistic support to individuals

Student
- Understand the values and principles of palliative and hospice care
- is able to implement client-oriented and evidence-based symptomatic holistic nursing care of terminally ill and dying patients
- can identify, meet and support the mental, existential and spiritual needs of patients and their relatives
- understands the importance of multidisciplinary working in supporting the patient's quality and management of life and the people close to him/her
- is able to use client-oriented 3rd sector services in palliative care and in addressing spiritual needs
- reflect on their own worldview and relationship with spirituality and their impact on the holistic encounter with clients
