Objective

The students will be able to:
• understand the key principles of gerontology and values of work with older people
• understand Finnish ageing policy, legislation, service system and quality recommendations
• know the position and expertise of a Bachelor of Social Services when working with older people
• apply multi-professional work and case management in their work
• recognize the diversity of older people and current themes in elderly work

Teaching methods

EXO study module is completed as an online course including orientation, lectures, supervision, independent studies and a 4-stage learning assignment.

Attendance to the orientation is a prerequisite to start the course unless agreed otherwise with the responsible teacher. Expert lectures are mandatory and absence must be compensated.

Completion alternatives

Alternative way of completing the study module is only possible upon specific circumstances/criteria (i.e. sickness etc.). Personal reasons such as travel and work are not considered as acceptable criteria.

Alternative way of completing the study module must be agreed with the responsible teacher and/or study guidance counselor two weeks before the beginning of the study module the latest.

The alternative way of completing EXO study module is an extensive individual assignment.

Further information

The study module requires skills to use Diak´s online learning area. Possibility to get AHOT/RPL as described in Diak´s RPL/AHOT guidelines. No previous studies are required to attend the study module.
