Objective

Students
• know the principles of medical and evidence-based nursing care for common diseases in children and adolescents
• understand the significance of illness and hospital care for children, adolescents and their families and are able to support and promote the wellbeing of families with children
• recognise professional and therapeutic interaction with children and adolescents of different ages and their families
• can provide client- and resource-oriented guidance to children and young people and their families, taking into account their everyday coping needs
• can support children, adolescents and their families and take into account the ethical aspects of nursing
• know the factors related to patient safety and quality of care in the nursing of children, adolescents and families
• know the basics of evidence-based gynaecological care
• understand the importance of the continuity of care and care pathway

Content

• key children and adolescent diseases and their evidence-based care
• family care work
• family-oriented nursing process of children and adolescents who have fallen suddenly and chronically ill
• PEWS (Paediatric Early Warning Score), NOBAB standards
• professional interaction and patient guidance
• the most common gynaecological diseases (gynaecological endocrinology, surgery, oncology) and the life cycle in nursing
• health technology and digital guidance in the care of children, adolescents and families
• patient safety and quality of care
• Child Protection Act and other topical laws and recommendations
• continuity of care and care pathway

Teaching methods

The study course starts with an 1 hour info session in the classroom(mandatory).

This course has six lessons and one workshop that prepares you for the exams.

Self studying at Diakle platform and two Diakle assignments.

Two exams: Pediatric and Gynaecology.

The lectures and assignments also include Finnish words that you need to learn.

Exam schedules

At the end of the course there will be two exams (pediatric and gynaecology).

Both exams must be passed successfully. If not, you can retake them individually on the general exam days further. You can retake the each exam twice.

International connections

This study course includes in Nursing curriculum. The language is English and Finnish.
