Objective
Students
• understand the principles of pharmacotherapy of the most common child and adolescent diseases and know how to apply the information in nursing
• understand the specificities of pharmacotherapy for children and adolescents of different ages
• can safely administer medicines and fluids to children and adolescents using different routes of administration
• can offer guidance on pharmacotherapy and its self-monitoring to children and adolescents and their families
• can plan, implement and evaluate medical and non-medical pain management for children and adolescents of different ages
• can perform the medical calculations included in the course
Content
• drug and medication safety
• the specificities of patient safety in pharmacotherapy in the treatment of children and adolescents
• the most common active ingredient groups and their effects, side effects, combined actions and mechanisms of action for children and adolescents
• treatment of pain for children and adolescents
• guidance on the implementation and self-monitoring of pharmacotherapy for children and adolescents and ensuring their commitment to it
• medical calculations
Teaching methods
This course includes mandatory lectures, independent studies, and exams:Pediatric medication exam (electronic exam), Medication calculation.

Exam schedules
Electronic medication theory exam and medication calculation exam (mandatory participation).
Medication calculation retake exam (mandatory if you haven´t passed the first exam).

Safe pharmacotherapy and medical calculation (PHA1) and Adult pharmacotherapy and medical calculation (PHA2) must be completed.

Previous pharmacotherapy and medical calculation courses (PHA1-5) must be completed before participation.
