General practical training information is held at the beginning of the studies. Training for the start of the internship is held before the start of the training.
The reflection is held after the internship has ended.

Objective
Work placement objectives
Students
•	understand the stages of the treatment process for internal medicine and cancer patients 
•	are able to plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based care for internal medicine and cancer patients taking into account patient safety  
•	can use systematic approaches and scoring systems to assess the clinical condition of patients (cABCDE, NEWS, GCS)
•	recognise the most common respiratory, circulatory, secretory and fluid balance disorders and their risk factors 
•	can use evidence-based interventions to support breathing, circulation, secretory functions and fluid balance 
•	can prepare and guide patients for examinations and procedures
•	are able to plan and administer medication under supervision using different routes of administration 
•	are able to monitor, evaluate and document the effectiveness of medical treatment and can work in unusual situations 
•	can administer parenteral nutrition and fluid therapy and pharmacotherapy under supervision
•	can identify risk points typical of the working environment in the pharmacotherapy process 
•	can document and report (ISBAR) on the overall care of a patient 
•	understand the significance of a multiprofessional team and know how to work in multiprofessional networks
•	know how to use the technological tools and applications used in adult nursing in an ethical and customer-oriented manner 
•	develop their oral and written Finnish language skills needed in care work
•	can assess the stage of their professional growth 
Objectives of work placement reflection 
Students
•	reflect on the importance of the work placement in relation to their own professional growth
•	reflect on patients’ holistic care processes and intervention methods in relation to the work placement environment 
•	reflect on the implementation of safe pharmacotherapy and the associated risk factors, as well as their own responsibilities as a student nurse providing pharmacotherapy

Teaching methods
The aim of practical training is to familiarise the student with practical things that are essential in working life and the application of the knowledge and skills learned during the semester.
 
The Workseed system is used as a tool for training guidance.
 
Attendance obligation 100%: general information, coaching for starting training, reflection.
                    
Employer connections
The student is responsible for finding an internship place. Internships are mainly acquired through Jobili. Information about Jobile will be provided in the general information session of the internship.

Completion alternatives
There is no optional method of completion, but practical training can also be completed outside the semester in accordance with the personal study plan and following Diak's practical training instructions.
 
The internship can also be completed during the semester or outside the semester in employment relationship. See separate instructions on Diak's website.
 
Training can be acreditated according to Diak's RPL instructions.
                    
Student workload
Practical training 8 ECTS, total number of hours 216 h. Training is carried out over a period of 6 weeks. The number of hours to be completed in the internship is 208 hours.
                    
Qualifications
In health sector education, participation in first-semester practical training and subsequent internships requires that the student has successfully completed Safe pharmacotherapy and medical calculation (PHA1) study module. Additionally, before each subsequent internship, the student must successfully complete the relevant medication administration and calculation modules related to that specific internship.

Admission to the internship requires Open University of Applied Sciences students to participate in an interview with the lecturer responsible for the internship and the guidance counsellor.
