Objective

After completing this study unit the students will be able to
- use online and e-learning platforms and facilities
- study and collaborate in international groups
- follow and conduct online studies
- use electronic information-seeking and library services

Teaching methods

Students learn how to use MoodleRooms learning enviornment and Office 365 cloud services within their studiesUsing wilma, TimeEdit, SoleOps, Diak email,LMS and other software in planning and scheduling studies and following individual progressUsing group working methods and tools such as shared online documents and Collaborate video conferencing tool in carrying out a group assignmentsBasic knowledge of the network, computer facilities and devices required in studies and/or offered by the organisation, understanding of the Diak network rules, privacy and information securitySkills in international collaboration, peer tutoring and evaluationThe study unit consists of two contact periods and distance learning periods before and in between the contact days.Before the first contact period students are given user ids and passwords as well as instructions for logging in to to LMS. On the LMS they will find more detailed description of the required pre-assignments. The pre-assignments are as follows:Self-evaluation test on the LMS (on digital learning tools, basic IT skills and information seeking skills)Filling up one',s profile with basic information and imageDownloading necessary apps and software, complying with BYOD principles and general system requirements of the organisationsOn the first contact period (1 day), there will beIntroduction to the study unit aims and contentsIntroductory presentations on using the library',s databases, MoodleRooms LMS and Office 365 servicesDivision into groups of 4-5: each group is given an assignment to be prepared during the distance learning periodDistance learning periodGroups are given more detailed instructions on the LMS and each group will have their own area for working on the assignmentOnline guidance sessions are carried out when needed to ensure the group work is finished on timePeer evaluation of the group presentations/ prepared materialThe second contact period (2 days):Lectures/info presentations on the digital learning tools and library tools as well as on the common good practices and expectations of international student collaboration.Students practice using the tools in small team workshops with pre-designed short assignments.The workshops are carried out in a learning cafe method, each group having a tutor student directing and supervising the activities.The second day focuses on solving problems and using the tools on the regional context as well as on the assignments given in the other ongoing study units', framework

Employer connections

Contextualizing the digital learning tools in the living labs. Students will identity needs concerning the using of digital tools in local contexts & workshops.

International connections

Basic IT skills (knowledge of using the Internet and browsers, installing software and apps on one',s device), no prior experinece of using a LMS is needed.

Completion alternatives

If a student needs to be absent from a contact learning period, she or he will have to prepare an extra assignment as agreed separately.
