Objective
After completing the study unit, the student - can describe and explain problematics related to the definition and classification of religious traditions, - can analyze the global significance of religious traditions in the present day, and - can interpret diversity within and between religious traditions. The study unit advances the following generic skills: internationalization, critical thinking, identification and development of expertise.
Methods of completion
Study methods: Study method 1: Lecture course: Lectures 20h and learning assignments, independent work 115h. Attendance is not mandatory. Study method 2: Independent study: Learning assignments at Elearn Moodle learning platform, independent work 135h. The learning platform can be found in Elearn Moodle under the name of the study unit. Assessment criteria: Study method 1: Lecture course: Grading scale 0–5. Some learning assignments are graded numerically, others using the scale pass-fail. Course grade is based on all numerically graded assignments. The completion of the course requires a pass grade from all learning assignments. Study method 2: Independent study: Grading scale 0–5. The completion of the course requires a pass grade from all learning assignments.
Content
The study unit discusses non-Christian religious traditions from a study of religion perspective, taking into account challenges related to the definition and classification of religion. The focus is on the global multifariousness of the contemporary religious field. The religious traditions explored more closely may vary depending on the course unit.
