Objective

Students
• can identify their skills and enhance their knowledge of the specificities of nursing internal medicine patients
• can plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based care of internal medicine patients in different environments
• deepen their knowledge of the care of multimorbid internal medicine patients
• deepen their knowledge of the significance of pharmacotherapy and nutrition and fluid therapy in internal medicine
• can support and guide multimorbid customers/patients and their families using a variety of methods
• can assess continuity of care and treatment pathways
• can work ethically, in multiprofessional cooperation and in accordance with the principles of sustainable development

Content

• the specificities of care for internal medicine patients
• evidence-based nursing
• the different care environments for internal medicine patients (hospital, outpatient care, home hospital, outpatient clinics, nurse consultations, remote consultation)
• assessing the care needs of and caring for multimorbid customers/patients
• offering support and guidance to multimorbid customers/patients and their families
• pharmacotherapy and nutrition and fluid therapy
• continuity of care and care pathway
• ethics, multiprofessional cooperation and sustainable development

Qualifications

Suitable for nurses, public health nurses, and midwives to deepen and update their skills, or for health sector university of applied sciences students who have already completed the relevant professional basic studies in their degree. The requirement for transitioning to advanced studies is approximately 120 credits or another specific reason agreed upon with a study counselor. Open university students should have equivalent knowledge (a corresponding course from another university of applied sciences or sufficient work experience as a nurse).

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is possible only if the student has a previous nursing degree or equivalent higher education studies leading to a nursing degree.
