Objective
Students
• can explain the specificities of nursing a perioperative patient and competence requirements of nurses
• know how to instruct patients in the different phases of perioperative care
• can plan and execute the care of perioperative patients in various working environments
• are familiar with the prevention of infections and aseptic operations in a perioperative nursing environment
• can describe the factors affecting patient and equipment safety
• can assess their own expertise and highlight development targets
• can apply evidence-based activities in the nursing of perioperative patients

• the specificities of pre-, intra- and postoperative patient care, special competence requirements of nurses
• pre-, intra- and postoperative patient care
• data systems, recording, reporting
• prevention of infections and asepsis
• patient and equipment safety
• multiprofessional collaboration
• evidence-based nursing in perioperative nursing
Qualifications
Suitable for nurses, public health nurses, and midwives to deepen and update their skills, or for health sector university of applied sciences students who have already completed the relevant professional basic studies in their degree. The requirement for transitioning to advanced studies is approximately 120 credits or another specific reason agreed upon with a study counselor. Open university students should have equivalent knowledge (a corresponding course from another university of applied sciences or sufficient work experience as a nurse).
