Objective

The student will:
• Be familiar with current and key research trends in the interpreting sector, including sign language interpreting, interpreting for people with speech disabilities, and community interpreting of spoken languages
• Be able to critically evaluate research data and its applicability to their work and operating environment
• Understand the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research field of interpreting, including linguistics, sociology, cognitive sciences, technology, accessibility, and interaction studies
• Be able to reflect on their professional practice in light of research and develop their work through a research-based approach
• Develop skills in information retrieval, reading research articles, and interpreting research as tools for professional development
• Be able to apply research data to the development of their work, for example, in client work, multidisciplinary cooperation, or ethical questions

• Societal dimensions of interpreting research: accessibility, equality, and institutional interaction
• Current themes and trends
• Examples of ongoing research and projects
• Article reading circle, expert visits, and analysis assignment
