The student
• recognizes situations in which community interpreting is needed in client work in the social, health care, and education sectors
• learns to work appropriately and professionally with an interpreter in different client situations
• learns to take into account key ethical and professional principles related to interpreter-mediated interaction.

• the role and significance of community interpreting in client work in the social, health care, and education sectors
• situations in which interpreting is needed
• the roles of the interpreter and the professional in interpreter-mediated interaction
• working with an interpreter at different stages of a client encounter
