Content scheduling

Course topics:
- French language in basic everyday and service situations
- French culture
- multicultural skills
- interaction and communication skills
- language learning skills

Objective

The aim is that the student familiarizes him- or herself with the French language and reaches a level where he or she can manage basic everyday life and service situations. The student also learns about the French culture.
After completing the basic course:
- the student is able to pronounce the language
- the student is able to use the alphabet
- the student is able to greet
- the student is able to name the days of the week, seasons and months
- the students are able to introduce themselves and ask common questions
- the student is able to tell about a family
- the student is able to use numbers
- the student is able to tell time and ask about it
- the student is able to use the most common verbs
- the student is able to describe using adjectives
- the student is able to tell about the weather
- the student is able to tell about hobbies

The target level of the course according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is A1.2.

Location and time

The classes are online and there is a supervised exam at the end (on campus or in Exam). Through the Exam-system the exam can be written at an individually booked time and place. (not always an option for Open university students).

Materials

The learning materials will be found in itslearning starting on the first day of the course according to Peppi.

Teaching methods

There are online classes in zoom on the course where grammar and vocabulary are explained and French pronounication and speaking are practiced together. The classes are, except for in French, mostly in English, but also some Finnish can be used if needed.

Exam schedules

At the last week of the course there is a spoken video exam, as well as a supervised written exam.

The written exam can also be done through the Exam-system either at a Centria campus or another Finnish higher educations campus at an exam appointment of your choice.

International connections

The learning materials are internationally oriented and the group of students on the course is international.

Student workload

On this course, it is important to participate in the classes and actively have weekly repetition of the learnt issues. At the end of the course there is an oral video-exam and a supervised written exam.

3 cr corresponds to 80h of student work, divided as follows:
online classes 26 hours
independent study 54 hours.
Students must attend 50% of the classes (hopefully more)
