Objective
After successfully conducting the course students are familiar with current and critical academic discussion of constructing theology. After the course, the student 1. understands the wide meanings of theology and related concepts 2. understand, how an individual builds personal sources of meaning and how worldview is related to sources of meaning 3. is familiar with different approaches to meaning in Christian tradition 4. can analyse the processes of constructing theology from the perspective of varying groups and communities 5. is able to identify contemporary and future challenges and opportunities related to theology, religion, and diaconia Generic skills: Critical thinking, Identification and development of personal expertise

Methods of completion
Five credits equals approximately 135 hours of studying. The course is based on lectures, discussions and self-studied material. The course follows thematic foci: Each focus includes preliminary material to be studied independently. This material is discussed on the lectures and reflected in the final essay. All the course materials are accessible via eLearn. In the end of the course, the students write a reflexive essay, where they will ponder in written form the contents of this course through given thematic questions. The final grade (0 -5) of the course is based on the reflexive essay.

The following topics are covered on the course: 1. Introduction to the meanings of theology, religion, and diaconia – Defining core concepts 2. Approaches to meaning in Christian tradition 3. Personal sources of meaning and their construction 4. Sources of meaning – perspectives of everyday, work, and leisure time 5. Woldview and meaning 6. Experience in research and practices of theology, diaconia and religion 7. Constructing theology: theological, practical, and critical perspective 8. Meaningful theology, religion, and diaconia in the future
