Objective
Students
• know how to explain the characteristics of a critically ill patient, the staggering of treatment and competence requirements of nurses
• know how to anticipate, identify and assess changes in the patient’s vital functions in various operating environments
• know how to plan and execute the care of critically ill patients in various operating environments
• know how to use and apply guidance methods in supporting and guiding the patient and their immediate circle
• know how to apply evidence-based activities when treating patients’ main illnesses and assess the impact of care

• characteristics of a critically ill patient requiring intensive care and observation, staggering of care, special competence requirements of nurses
• nursing of a critically ill patient
• aetiology and pathophysiology of changes in vital functions
• classification systems for nursing critically ill patients
• assisting interaction and guidance, service coordination for continued care
• evidence-based nursing
Qualifications
Soveltuu sairaanhoitajille, terveydenhoitajille ja kätilöille osaamisen syventämiseen ja päivittämiseen tai terveysalan amk-opiskelijalle, joka on suorittanut jo omassa tutkinnossaan aiheeseen liittyvät ammatilliset perusopinnot. Edellytyksenä syventäviin opintoihin siirtymiselle on n. 120 opintopistettä tai opon kanssa sovittu jokin muu erityinen syy. Avoimen amk:n opiskelijalla vastaavien tietojen hallinta (muiden AMKien vastaava opintojakso tai riittävä työkokemus sairaanhoitajana).
